This service will bring together the three great Epiphany stories – the Coming of the Magi, the Wedding at Cana and the Baptism of Christ at the Jordan, of course all within the context of wonderful music. There will be opportunity to renew Baptismal Vows. Everyone is most welcome.
The funeral of our dear friend Canon Jack Higham will be held this Friday (July 13th) at 11.30 am at St Mary’s Church Greasley NG16 2AB, followed by burial in the churchyard there.
Further details may be found on the Funeral Director’s website, www.gillotts.co.uk under the Funeral Announcements section.
Our wonderful Easter garden display had its stone rolled away on Sunday 1st April, as we celebrated the glory of Christ’s resurrection.
St. Mary’s was kitted out in splendid floral array:
Special mention, I think, should be made of Iris’ wonderful display at the foot of the cross:
And it wasn’t just the church which was florally embellished, either. We at St. Mary’s are fortunate that when Evelyn and Eleanor Drummond get creative, we can celebrate the glory of the traditional Easter Bonnet:
Thanks for making such a grand effort, girls!
We had a good turnout for the Palm Sunday morning service, marking the start of Holy Week.
Palm crosses were distributed, held aloft, blessed and, finally, processed around the church.
A new photo gallery is available that shows some of the palmy action!
On Wednesday 14th February (Ash Wednesday) there will be a special Sung Eucharist at 7.30pm, during which there will be the imposition of ashes.
Please note that this special service will replace the usual 6.15pm Evensong.
George William Mills was baptised on Sunday 4th February: an occasion of much joy for all who were present.
Like the rather-beautiful Christening cake (decorated with matching St. Mary’s icing motifs) that was served afterwards, the service was lovely: the parents behaved themselves well for the most part… and there wasn’t a peep out of George himself, either!
Welcome George: you are already a treasured addition to the St. Mary’s family and we look forward to your delightfully well-behaved attendance in the months and years to come.
God bless you and your entire family.
We sadly advise that Mrs. Betty Ellis, who worshipped at St. Mary’s for many years, passed away, peacefully in her sleep, on January 14th at her nursing home in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
Accordingly, after the morning service on Sunday, 11th February, her ashes will be interred in the Garden of Remembrance, alongside those of her late husband, Roy, a former Churchwarden of St. Mary’s.
There will be a procession to the Garden at the end of the Eucharist service and a Nunc Dimitis will be sung during the interment. All are welcome.
A short note to confirm that Rev. Tom Gillum, presently our Vicar Designate, will be made Vicar of St Mary’s at a special service in the church by Bishop Paul on Sunday 18th March at 4:00 pm.
Please pray for Tom and for the future life and ministry of the parish.
We wish to give advance notice that a memorial service for Dr. Geoffrey Walker will be held at St Mary’s on Thursday, 15th February at 3.00 pm.
A reception will be held afterwards at the Lace Market Hotel and anyone wishing to attend it are asked to add their names to the list available in the south porch.
