St Mary’s has been a beacon of faith since 1386, representing the oldest Christian foundation in Nottingham, and it still plays an important role as the city’s civic church.
We are a traditional church with an open mind, keen to explore and embrace new ways of enabling people to encounter the love of God, while continuing to maintain excellence in liturgy and music.
We are a Christ-centred, theologically broad, and inclusive church community. Worship and prayer are at the heart of St Mary’s, and we are blessed with a numinous space where people can connect with God, and find beauty and meaning in the midst of everyday life. Our worship is uplifting, and profound, and our music in the Anglican choral tradition raises hearts and spirits.
Music is a major focus for the church, with a well-established adult choir, and the parish has recently invested in creating links with schools to establish a new children’s choir, serving to reach and involve more people in local communities through building on our musical resources.
Beyond our worship, St Mary’s has established relationships within the city centre, particularly through the Workplace Chaplaincy and partnerships with Nottingham’s Creative Quarter. There has been substantial investment in the church building over recent years, mainly focused on making it more accessible, with the result that the church is now being used for a wide range of church and community events.
