This Week at St Mary’s

A Journey of Faith

The Rev’d Pippa Scott writes:

As I start my new ministry as Assistant Curate here at St Mary’s I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a little of my journey of faith…

For as long as I can remember I have attended church services with my family. When I was about six years old, I joined our church choir, and so began my love of music, particularly religious choral music. Over the years music has become an integral part of my faith, wherever we lived I always joined the church choir, only stopping after my ordination in 2020.

As I got older church remained central to my life and faith, and I knew early on that I was being called to ordination. However, it wasn’t until I was at university, studying maths, that I started to explore the idea of ordination more seriously. Ultimately, I   decided the timing wasn’t right and that I needed more life experience first.

That life experience came in the form of a two-year job as a Biomedical Statistician. However, the feeling that I was being called to something more didn’t leave me, and so I started an internship at Holy Trinity and the Priory churches in Lenton, which included returning to university as an assistant chaplain. Holy Trinity was to become my “sending parish” when I was accepted for ordination training 2 years later.

I completed my training at Cranmer Hall, which was such a gift: living, learning, and worshipping together with other ordinands and trainee ministers/pastors from other denominations. They are three years I will cherish for years to come. This was followed by a wonderful 3 ½ years as Assistant Curate at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Mansfield. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to serve my curacy, where I have had the opportunity to grow and flourish, surrounded by love and support.

However, all good things must come to an end, and I am fortunate that that ending is my being seconded here. My licensing on Ash Wednesday was a wonderful occasion, and it was lovely to see members of both St Mary’s and St Peter’s congregations come together in worship.

All that remains to be said is thank you for welcoming me so wonderfully to St Mary’s, and I am excited to see what God has in store for me here.

The congregation are warmly invited to stay for cake and drinks after this morning’s service as we welcome The Rev’d Pippa Scott as our new Assistant Curate.
