St Mary’s inaccessible throughout Christmas Week

We wish to advise that St. Mary’s will be inaccessible to visitors on Tuesday 26th December 2017 until Tuesday 2nd January 2018 inclusive.

There will be no services at the Church throughout this time. But please note that a joint service will be held with our neighbouring congregation at St. Peter’s at 10:45am on Sunday 31st December.

The Church will welcome visitors once more on Wednesday 3rd January 2018 at 10am.

Should you need access to the Church or its grounds before then, please contact the Church Wardens, who may be able to assist on a discretionary basis.

Meanwhile, we wish everyone visiting this site a safe and happy Christmas and a blessed New Year:

Light is given where once there was darkness
and hope where there was only death.
We go into this season knowing
that God will guide our feet into the way of peace.

A New Vicar for St. Mary’s

We are delighted to announce that the Reverend Tom Gillum, at present interim Bishop’s Chaplain in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, is to be the Vicar-designate of the Benefice of St. Mary the Virgin, the Lace Market, Nottingham.

The Benefice of St. Mary the Virgin comes into effect on 1st January 2018 as the result of a Pastoral Scheme.

This was announced on Sunday 17th December 2017.

Bach’s Mass in B Minor a triumph…

On Saturday 16th December, St. Mary’s hosted Solomon’s Knot -a collective of Baroque singers and players who are prepared to take risks in order to communicate more directly with their audience.

Their rendition of Bach’s magisterial B minor mass was well-attended and brought the house down at its glorious conclusion. The performance was well-reviewed in the local press.

A photo gallery is available, containing shots taken before and during the performance.

The general consensus seemed to be that it was a great privilege for St. Mary’s to have been able to host such a high-quality musical performance. We look forward to more concerts of similar quality in the New Year!
