Friends of St. Mary's
The Friends of St. Mary's exists as a
charitable association to further the mission and maintain the worship of the
church.
They also seek to support the Vicar,
Churchwardens and PCC by maintaining, repairing, renewing, improving, enhancing
and extending the structure and fabric, furniture, furnishings, fixtures and
fittings of St. Mary's.
Membership of the Friends is open to all
and is by yearly subscription. In return, Friends receive a newsletter three
times a year keeping them informed of events and special services. The Friends
hold an Annual General Meeting, host an Annual Lecture and have visits to
places of interest. Friends also fundraise and in previous years have
contributed to the purchase of items of communion silver, altar hangings and
servers vestments.
In 1996 the Friends had their most
ambitious appeal and raised £14,000 for new choir stalls lighting. To celebrate
their Silver Jubilee in 1999, the Friends purchased new altar hangings for both
the high and chapel altars. The material was Comper Bellini and Gilt Comper
Bellini made by Watts & Co of Westminster.
Subscription rates for membership of the
Friends are £7 single, £12 family (at same address), £25 schools and charities
and £50 corporate.
